Each year I find new ways to make learning fun and increase student involvement with the school library. I hope to make this year even better, and with your participation, it will be! Chicago Public Schools Library Curriculum Development Team
Traveled to Kenya and Mongolia for a class on Scientific Inquiry & created an inquiry unit with a leopard gecko.
Written curriculum units for Brookfield Zoo, 2009.
Had an article published in Faces Magazine, October 2009.
Won first place in Johnson & Johnson’s Good Night Moon story writing contest, 2007.

Good Morning Mongolia
Faces, October 2009 by Andrea Hetzke Summary: The article provides the personal profile of a 16 year old child, Shagdarsuren Noninzul or Zulaa. As stated, Zulaa begins her day at a Mongolian public radio station as a volunteer correspondent. Zulaa first became involved with the public radio in 2005 when she was interviewed about her involvement in her school's Olympiad contest. Zulaa wants to make a difference in the lives of the children throughout Mongolia through her radio program. Zulaa has also co-hosted a one day radio workshop. |

Franklin School Teacher Andrea Hetzke Awarded 2010 Hendee Rotary Scholarship
May 24, 2010 The Rotary Club of Park Ridge has named Andrea Hetzke the recipient of the 2010 Raymond E. Hendee Rotary Scholarship. Ms. Hetzke is the director of the Learning Resource Center at Franklin School, which serves students in grades K-5. She will use the $1,000 scholarship to travel to Kenya to study first-hand the community-based conservation concepts and practices at the African Conservation Centre, which focuses on human-wildlife coexistence. Franklin Principal Dan Walsh will accompany Ms. Hetzke to the Rotary Club meeting on Wednesday, May 26, where she will accept her award. “Ms. Hetzke’s proposal for an international study experience was selected, because it would be closely in keeping with Dr. Hendee’s interest in supporting professional development for teachers as well as Rotary’s international interest,” according to Rotarian Anna Rybak, who chaired the review committee. The Rotary Club of Park Ridge presents the scholarship annually in memory of the late Dr. Hendee, who was Superintendent of School District 64 from 1970 until his retirement in 1990. The award honors his dedication to young people and education, his support of the teaching staff, and his lifelong commitment to serving others as a Park Ridge Rotarian for 32 years. Applicants must be teachers in District 64 and their coursework must directly relate to their teaching assignment. |
