Qr Codes for Librarians

Prezi: http://prezi.com/71mdsaf1dhcy/qr-codes/
Quick Links: Generator: Kaywa         Reader :  Scanlife

Creating and Reading Q.R. Codes!

Step 1
Create Codes
with a QR Code Generator

*Kaywa   http://qrcode.kaywa.com/
TIPS FOR KAYWA: Use a screenshot of the clip instead of the copy link...the code changes if you use the copy link!

QR Droid: qrdroid.com/generagte

Delivr: deliver.com/qr-code-generator

Azon Media azonmedia.com/qrcode-generator
and many, many more!

Step 2
Download app
(a QR Code reader)

* Scanlife
I-Nigma
neoreader
www.qrdroid.com  (android)
http://pit.ly/rseqG6 (iphone)
www.beetagg.com/en/supported-phones (blackberry and windows phone)

Step 3
Check that your Code Works!

Always make sure that your code actually works before sending it out.

If you have a problem, make sure that you check the link and it is all there- including a file extension!

Where Can I put Q.R. codes?

On a book cover
In a book like a book plate
Any page in a book
On a bookmark
On a flyer or poster
On a letter or information sheet to parents
In an email
On a project
or anywhere else you can think of!

What if I don't have a camera that can scan q.r. codes?

Don't worry! Parents, students or someone they know is likely to have  q.r. code reader !

What Can I do with Q.r. Codes in the Library?

Link To Websites

  • Create a "paper bookmark" for quick access to a website you will use with your lesson.
  • Link up to any website that the students can use
  • Link to songs like Pete the Cat!
  • Link to Book Trailers
  • Link to book/author websites
  • Link to Databases

Link to Student created work

  • Use Google Docs or Dropbox to create a link directly to student work.
  • Students can update old books by writing new information and putting a Q.R. code next to the old information!

Scavenger Hunts

Create Scavenger Hunt using google docs or one of the following:
http://classtools.net/QR/
( This is good because they don't need internet!)

Enter your questions on this site:
(my example:http://www.classtools.net/QR/qr_generator.php?fold=31&fname=ajN6V&diff=0)

Create a second list for locations:
(my example: http://www.classtools.net/QR/teacher.php?fold=15&fname=ZMMPd)

When finished, copy directions into MS Word to merge the two together.

More information

  • Link to Book Trailers of other books they might like
  • Create a google doc with an assignment
  • Link to a blog
  • Link to a poll

Sharing information

  • Add a QR code to your letters home for quick links to your website.
  • Create a paper bookmark with links to your programs, websites or parent information:

Create Audio

  • Create quick and simple audio http://qrvoice.net/
  • Create a Dropbox Account ( info below)
  • Record projects or jokes or biographies with GarageBand.
* Send letters to authors with the students reading their letter:

Or listen to a joke!

Dropbox: a great tool for adding Audio to q.r. codes!

Create a Dropbox account: www.dropbox.com for websites, or book extensions

Things to Remember About Dropbox:
  • Upload to the public files
  • Once a link is copied, you cannot move the file around in Dropbox.... organize with folders first!
  • Make sure to right click to copy link & look for the little check mark that says it copied! ( this will save a lot of frustration!) If you preview the file, DO NOT copy the link from the web address. It will not work
  • After the link is copied, paste the link into the Q.R. code generator.
